Frostline Racing is an ice-boat minigame for Paper. Release 1.0 is its first stable release, with a complete Free racing experience and Premium systems for competitive play and server administration.

Race lifecycle

Each arena moves through waiting, countdown, racing, results, and reset. Ordered checkpoints and laps determine progress; placements, DNFs, and timeouts resolve the outcome. Queues, spectating, reconnect grace, and player-state restoration handle the surrounding session. Both editions support optional randomized starting-grid assignment.

Records and ranked competition

SQLite stores player statistics, race history, and race/lap records by default. Premium adds Elo-style ratings, configurable divisions, ranked leaderboards, player history, and administrator race inspection. JSON export/import supports statistics transfer and backups.

Shared persistence

Premium can use MySQL to share statistics, records, ratings, and history across installations. Track identity determines which arena replicas contribute to the same records. Writes are asynchronous, player-stat and leaderboard reads use caches, and ranked entry is blocked when the configured storage is unavailable.

Setup and operation

Arena commands validate track configuration before enabling it; WorldEdit selection support is optional. Premium adds a setup dashboard, an in-world wand, and private region previews. Busy sessions defer reloads, missing defaults are added while retaining custom values, and legacy Iceboat configuration has a migration path. Diagnostics expose the active build, edition, storage, hooks, and arena/session state.

Presentation and music

Both editions offer configurable race UI, command rewards, and one-track arena music using NBS files or resource-pack sound keys. Premium adds cosmetic selection and phase-specific Advanced Music playlists with editing and previews. Each phase selects one track; continuous playlist chaining is outside the current scope. Both editions can consume external PlaceholderAPI values; Frostline’s own expansion is Premium-only.

Compatibility and scope

Current builds target Paper 1.21.6 and newer, including 26.x. Use Java 21 before Minecraft 26.1 and Java 25 for 26.1 onward. Linux, Windows, macOS, and Universal artifacts are available; direct Windows/macOS testing is limited.

Shared MySQL persistence does not provide cross-server queues, proxy routing, dynamic arena instances, or matchmaking. Ranked seasons and team modes remain future work. The wiki contains the full edition boundaries and setup reference.

Development note

The Beta 0.9.1 devlog records the earlier Advanced Music GUI work. It remains a historical development note rather than the current release summary.
